Ronda K. Kent, of counsel to Ashford & Wriston, has practiced with the firm since 1993.
Ms. Kent focuses her practice on real property, environmental and trust law. She has extensive experience in commercial leasing, the trust administration issues of large estates and high end residential real estate transactions. Her experience includes:
- Advising a major landowner in real property matters including negotiating purchase and sale agreements, commercial leasing, protective covenants, subdivision, and easements;
- Counseling various landowners concerning the impact of environmental laws on owning, buying and selling property, including underground storage tanks, wetlands issues and the management of hazardous materials;
- Advising both trustees and beneficiaries of major trust estates concerning issues relating to fiduciary duties, annual accounting, trust termination and trust administration.
Professional Activities:
Ms. Kent is a member of the American Bar Association, its Real Property, Probate and Trust Law section, and its Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law section. She is also an active member of the Hawai`i State Bar Association, where she is a member of the Natural Resources, Real Property and Trust and Probate sections. Ms. Kent authored the environmental law chapters of the Hawai`i District Court Landlord-Tenant Manual and the Hawai`i State Bar Association's Conveyance Manual and is the author of several other legal publications including "An Attorney's Duty to Serve", 21 Rutgers L.J. 735 (1990), "Abortions and State Constitutional Law", 21 Rutgers L.J. 905 (1990) and "Developments in State Constitutional Law", 21 Rutgers L.J. 940 (1990).
Professional Recognition:
Ms. Kent was selected as one of the best trust and estates laywers in Hawai`i in The Best Laywers in America, 2008-present. She is a past chair of the Natural Resources section of the Hawai`i State Bar Association. Formerly, she served as the section's vice-chair and program chair. Ms. Kent's speaking engagements have included a variety of topics including landlord-tenant, commercial leasing and environmental issues.
Community Activities:
A former occupational therapist and hospital manager, Ms. Kent is a past president of the Cleveland District Occupational Therapy Association, a founding member of the Northeast Ohio Directors Forum and a past member of the Governor's Task Force in Allied Health Education (Ohio).
