Mary Beth M. Wong, a partner at Ashford & Wriston, has practiced with the firm since 1991.
Ms. Wong’s practice focuses on financial institutions, business organizations, non-profit corporations and real estate matters. Her experience includes:
- Representing large and small businesses in transactions, acquisitions, management, operations, owner disputes and employment policies and terminations;
- Representing financial institutions in management and operations, including compliance, documentation preparation and review, member disputes, employment policies and terminations, fraud and suspicious activity, insurance coverage, regulatory investigations, and board of directors governance;
- Representing non-profit corporations in education, health-care, civil rights and other matters;
- Representing land owners and condominium associations in operations, contract negotiations, and regulatory matters.
Professional Activities:
Ms. Wong is a member of the American Bar Association (Business Law, Credit Union Law, and Labor and Employment Law Sections), Hawai‘i State Bar Association and Hawai‘i Women Lawyers. She has served as a director of the Hawai‘i State Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division; as a director of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (Hawai‘i Chapter); and as co-counsel of the Japanese American Citizens League (Hawai‘i Chapter).
Professional Recognition:
Ms. Wong served as a law clerk to the Honorable Martin Pence, Senior Judge for the United States District Court for the District of Hawai‘i; and to the Honorable Herbert Y. C. Choy, Senior Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Ms. Wong is a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award.
Community Activities:
Ms. Wong is on the Board of Directors of Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus and Hawaii International Dyslexia Association. Her other pro bono activities have included serving as a director and secretary of the Honolulu Zoological Society; representing claimants for redress through the Japanese American Citizens League and National Asian Pacific American Bar Association; and assisting the Education Law Center in obtaining improved public education.
